Spirit of Solitude

As storm clouds gathered over Maligne Lake, Spirit Island stood unwavering, a small sanctuary of green surrounded by waters of glacial blue. The wind moved gently across the surface, stirring reflections that blurred the line between sky and earth. In that moment, the island felt alive, not lonely, but complete in its stillness.

Spirit of Solitude is a meditation on quiet strength, reminding us that solitude is not the absence of connection, but the place where peace and resilience take root, even when the world grows dark around us.

Photographed by Steve Austin at Maligne Lake, Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada. Open edition, printed to order with archival inks.

Size: 8x10

Room images are for illustration. See Dimensions below for exact sizes.

All sizes refer to the image itself. Foam-mounted prints and canvas match the image size exactly. Framed pieces are larger because of the mat and frame, so use the finished sizes below when planning your wall space.

  • Paper, no frame: exact image size.
  • Canvas, no frame: exact image size, 1.25″ deep.
  • Canvas with black, white, or maple frame: about 1″ larger than the image on each side, 1.5″ deep.

Framed prints (black, white, or maple), finished outside dimensions:

  • 8×10 image: 12″ × 14″
  • 16×20 image: 21.25″ × 25.25″
  • 24×30 image: 29.25″ × 35.25″

Every Natural Phocus piece is printed to order using color-calibrated giclée printers and archival pigment inks, chosen for rich detail and long-lasting color.

Paper prints are made on Somerset Velvet, an acid-free cotton fine art paper with a soft, matte surface that renders fine detail beautifully. Unframed paper prints are mounted on lightweight foam board, so they arrive flat, rigid, and ready to frame or display.

Canvas prints are stretched over 1.25″ deep wood bars with a mirror wrap, which reflects the edges of the photograph around the sides so none of the image is lost. Each arrives with a sawtooth hanger, ready to hang.

Every piece is inspected before it ships.

All frames are available in black, white, or maple, and arrive ready to hang with a hanging wire attached.

Framed paper prints are set behind a white mat and protected by clear acrylic, which is lighter and more shatter-resistant than glass. A kraft paper backing finishes the reverse.

Framed canvas sits within a matching floating frame, with a slim gap between the canvas and the frame so the artwork appears to float. It’s finished with a black backboard and arrives with a hanging wire installed.

Black offers a crisp, modern contrast. White feels light and airy in bright or minimal spaces. Maple brings the warmth of natural wood grain.

Each piece is printed to order and typically ships within 3 to 5 business days. Delivery usually takes an additional 2 to 6 business days.

With a little care, your artwork will stay beautiful for years.

  • Hang away from direct sunlight and areas of high humidity, such as bathrooms.
  • Dust gently with a soft, dry microfiber cloth.
  • For acrylic-glazed frames, use a soft cloth lightly dampened with water. Avoid paper towels and ammonia-based cleaners, which can scratch or cloud acrylic.
  • For canvas, dust only. Avoid water or cleaning products on the surface.

For more detail, see our Hanging Instructions and Care and Handling guides.

Every piece is printed only when it’s ordered. Nothing is mass-produced or stored in a warehouse, which means less waste and no unsold inventory.

Our prints are made with water-based pigment inks, and each one is produced and inspected individually. It’s a slower, more intentional way to make art, and it reflects the same respect for the natural world that inspires every photograph.
